080808 of the death

Born from a week of experimentation, 080808 pushed the Spontz engine into darker and noisier territory. What began as a technical experiment became a strange fusion of improvised music, recycled visuals and raw demoscene chaos.

080808 of the death was born almost by accident, as an experiment with the Spontz Visuals Editor v1.1 on a Mac, with Evoke only a week or two away. The whole demo was forged in roughly a week, with effects, music, objects and synchronisation coming together as they went.

Its soundtrack grew out of improvised jam sessions in a music studio in Belgrade. The music deliberately pushes noise to the extreme, starting with ambient sounds and gradually building into increasingly oppressive layers of hardcore and power noise, eventually reaching almost pure white noise.

Visually, it is essentially a remix of Death of the Death, keeping some of its aesthetics while taking them into a much harsher and more experimental direction.

It was still being finished at the party itself, with the team working under difficult conditions and struggling even to see the screen properly because of reflections.

In the end, 080808 of the death was less a planned production than a frantic experiment: a borrowed engine, a Mac, music born from jams in Belgrade, and a week spent discovering how far they could push the engine.
